Bij Pasen horen hazen en konijnen, waarom?

Hares and rabbits are associated with Easter, why?

Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating Jesus' resurrection from the dead on the Sunday after his crucifixion. So much for this brief religious lesson. If you ask someone what they think of when you say the word Easter, the same answers often come up: Easter Bunny, eggs, Easter eggs, chocolate eggs, and spring... But why do we associate Easter with bunnies and eggs? And why are supermarkets already filled with Easter decorations and eggs in January?

1. Why are there always eggs at Easter?

In Christianity, it was forbidden to eat eggs during the fasting month, between Ash Wednesday and Easter. But chickens start laying more eggs again in the spring, and by Easter, there were many eggs. Too many to eat fresh. The oldest eggs were decorated, and the other eggs were eaten at Easter.

2. Why is the Easter Bunny associated with Easter?

There are various stories about the origin of the Easter Bunny at Easter. One of the stories about the Easter Bunny originates in the Middle Ages in Germany. People believed that the hare was an earthly manifestation of the goddess Eastra. She is the goddess of spring and fertility. Another known story is that hares are native to Great Britain and were sacred animals in pre-Christian times. The rabbit was introduced by the Normans. Both animals are prolific breeders and are therefore associated with the birth and renewal of spring, the season in which Easter falls.

3. What does the Easter Bunny have to do with Jesus?

They have nothing to do with each other. Rabbits, eggs, Easter gifts, chocolate eggs, and fluffy yellow chicks all have their origins in paganism. They were all incorporated into the celebration of Easter, separate from the Christian tradition of honoring the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter Sunday. Easter became a closing feast of the fasting period, during which people were not allowed to eat meat, dairy products, and eggs, and this was richly celebrated with all those delicacies.

4. Bunnies are cute all year round!

Rabbits and Easter are inextricably linked. But rabbits are cute all year round. As a creative person, you should really start making Christmas items, such as a gnome, in the summer. From the Christmas holidays, you can immediately continue with Valentine's and Easter decorations. I'm always late. I see many nice things, but before I start, I have to finish other things or make custom orders. But for cute bunnies, I always make time! They are cute all year round and a perfect gift for a little one on the way or a birthday!
